This is what it looks like now... almost a month later...
Here's a big squash plant... destined to be much larger... It has several baby squash in various stages of development...
As nice as this is becoming... it's nothing like the garden we had in Elberta, Utah when we were there on our mission. The missionaries were spoiled with all the compost and water we could use, no cost. They'd even deliver large truckloads of the compost to us. (It's not like there was any shortage of it at the dairy!!!)
Here are some pictures of that garden and some of the bounty from it.
This is my dear friend, Sister Nora Rigby, also a missionary.
This is the kitchen where we lived, in the Quonset hut that was remodeled into an apartment for the missionaries.
Isn't this pretty... this is just some of the great stuff he grew...
OK, now back here in beautiful downtown Overgaard, here are some pictures of other things he's doing. He's been planting flowers, both purchased and ones found on his walks... local wild flowers he's transplanted in rock-bordered beds. You can also see the pineneedle-lined paths along the flowerbeds. They have made an amazingly neat surface to walk on... doesn't get muddy or anything.
This one has strawberry plants that were shared with us by our friends/neighbors, Skip & Cindy Preston.
These are some kind of wild berries from the forest. We'll have to wait and see what they end up being.
Here is the flower box on the front walk leading up to the deck.
Here shows where he's been building a blind to help camouflage our 500-gallon propane tank...
We will then plant these Morning Glories around it hoping they will grow fast and hide the tank. These shown here were in front of our place in Elberta... They were beautiful... I harvested all the seeds off this plant and sure hope they'll grow here, too. It might not be until next year, however. It's kind of late in the year to get something growing from seed.

I am so glad you posted your Elberta pictures though it makes me more homesick for you. You will feel bad knowing the young men living there now just are not into gardening (or weeding for that matter!). Steve's garden is awesome!!! I am having trouble with my zuchinni and cucumbers this year and I hope I get a few. My plants are only half the size of Steve's. This fall the neighbor is cutting down the tree that has overgrown over my garden space so next year it will get the sun needed and hopefully fewer grasshoppers!!! Keep up the good work Steve and you can put zuchinni in my car and run hide anytime you want! Love you two!

Um Dad, I can still see the 500 gallon propane tank. I know you have visions of Morning Glories covering up your massive propane-ness, but I think your fence needs to be a bit higher. Just thought I'd help you out a little.
P.S. I'd like a garden box for my birthday ... or Labor Day.
I love your house and landscape. Very pretty!
